When they give a response they will decide if their response is creative and will hold up a card. Each team member will also have a set of cards with two values on them (for example one card may say 2/4 another 3/6). During response time they will be able to refer to their own lists, so that they may choose the responses they think are the MOST creative or give a new response. They may write as many as they wish and are not limited to those responses when it is their time to respond. They are allowed to write down the responses that they will use during response time. In these problems, team members will be given paper and pencils and are allowed to brainstorm during think time. Spontaneous Competition - We have added a new procedure in SOME types of verbal problems. Its manufacturer describes Bondic™ as a "Liquid Plastic Welder" and advertises that "Glue is DEAD". Also, Bondic™ is not glue and is not allowed to be used in the structure. Nothing, including the device and team members, is allowed to remove or cause the marbles to be removed in any other way for score.ī9 - Glue: Only balsa wood and glue are allowed to compose the final structure.

There must be 5 weights plus the crusher board, supported by the structure on the tester, when releasing the final marble.ī11 - Releasing the marbles: Marbles may only be released by removing a piece of the structure with the team created device. That is, 1 metal weight when the first marble is removed, 2 when the second is removed, and so on.
However, after placing the crusher board, there must be the required number of weights on the stack before proceeding with marble removal. Therefore, if a previous attempt releases more than one marble or there were less than five to start, the device will still remove one piece of the structure after a weight is supported as described in B11a for the first five weights placed.ī11 - Releasing marbles:Teams may remove and replace weights at any time, including during the process of releasing the marbles. This will be tested before the marbles are loaded.ī11 - Releasing the Marbles: It is necessary for the team to remove a piece of the structure using the device, even if there is no marble to release, for all five attempts. This will be demonstrated at weigh-in where the structure will be picked up by a team member, who will rotate it, and have it come to rest upside down. All parts of the structure must be rigidly connected in a way that the structure retains it's shape while being picked up at any point or by any portion. Its boundaries will not be marked.Ī The Problem & B6 - The Structure: The solution must be a single structure that meets all of the limitations. The competition area will be a minimum of 12' x 7' area. This should read "a marble-measuring device with an internal 9/16" diameter (to ensure the minimum size is met) and another with an internal 11/16" diameter (to ensure the maximum size is met)." Ge - Marble measuring device: This currently reads "a marble-measuring device with an internal 5/8" diameter and another with an internal 11/16" diameter." Teams may visit the competition site between the hours of 7 AM and 7 PM but may not practice on the site. This will be tested before the marbles are loaded.
The solution must be a single structure that meets all of the limitations. The team may however, place only the marbles into the structure at any time before placing the 1st metal weight during its performance. Attachments to the structure or marbles can only be done by use of the team created device during the 8 minute performance. This includes the breaking of any structure joints. Teams may NOT make any alterations to the structure or marbles after completion of weigh-in. Problem Clarifications for Lose Your Marblesī6 - The Structure & C3 - Structure Specifications:
